Next month in New York, Ki Smith Gallery is opening on far-west 125th Street in Harlem with a solo show of work by the light artist Sei Smith (Ki’s brother). The show, titled “Reflections 2,” opens February 2.

Ki Smith has worked for 10 years as an independent curator and founder of the Bushwick-based gallery and performance space Apostrophe in 2012. The new operation, in a 1,200-square-foot space right off the Hudson River, follows a loan of the location to Smith for one year from David and Pernilla Avital, whom Smith met through the collectors Lisa and Noam Bardim.

About his enterprise, Smith told ARTnews, “The gallery will be dedicated to building long-lasting relationships with emerging artists. We will also use art as a tool to raise awareness and funds for causes and to give back to communities and nonprofits.”
