Schumer on O’Rourke: I don’t know any Democrat who agrees with him

More Democrats have come forward to denounce 2020 hopeful Beto O’Rourke’s recent proposal to confiscate semi-automatic firearms. While speaking to reporters on a conference call Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he doesn’t know of any other Democrat who agrees with O’Rourke.
In an appearance on CNN Wednesday, O’Rourke was left in silence after host Chris Cuomo told O’Rourke he didn’t think he would legally be able to confiscate citizen’s weapons.

The media needs to stop fear-mongering. The only guns you will have to sell back are weapons of war, designed to kill as efficiently and effectively as possible. The American people are with me on this: AR-15s and AK-47s belong on the battlefield, not in our communities.

“I don’t think we’ve ever seen the U.S. government do a taking of private property like you’re suggesting,” said Cuomo. “So, I’m not fear-mongering, I’m repeating what you’re saying.”
His comments come as a number of 2020 Democrats have come out against O’Rourke’s proposed mandatory buyback program for so-called assault-styleweapons. This includes, most recently, fellow candidate Mayor Pete Buttigieg who said the Texas Democrat’s proposal only helped boost the GOP.
