Democrat Senator Doug Jones claimed he is confident he will get reelected despite many seeing his win in Alabama as a fluke.

In a recent interview, Jones claimed his campaign will not be based on dividing people. However, he later appears to contradict himself by accusing Republicans of not wanting to let black Americans vote.

The Democrat lawmaker has made a series of controversial claims about race, while promoting his new book on tour about his time as a prosecutor.

“White nationalism was more of a just nationalism, and it has evolved into more of a race issue because we do see America becoming more diverse every day and that bothers people. It scares some people. They have jobs. They have families, and they’re just not used to this. And fear is an incredibly motivating factor sometimes, and that’s what social media does for these trolls. They play on that fear.” – Sen. Doug Jones, (D-Ala.)

The junior senator will be up for reelection in 2020, with several Republicans already lining up to take him on.
