Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is decrying the treatment of the Covington Catholic High School student’s by the mainstream media and the radical left.
During a speech Wednesday on the Senate floor, McConnell called out far-left activists and the media for isolating a few seconds of video without context, and deciding to denigrate the group of students.
He also said the students were tried, convicted, and sentenced by the media in a matter of hours. The Kentucky lawmaker said “too much damage” had been done by the point some began apologizing.
McConnell also warned that Americans rights are put at risk when the media behaves like it did in the situation.
“Sadly this kind of fact-free rush to judgment is becoming an all too often occurrence, so if we can learn anything from this weekend, here’s what I hope it is — when the rush for headlines takes precedence over the facts, mistakes are made and our rights as American are put at risk,” he stated.
McConnell also called the trend of rushing to judgment “particularly troubling” when young people are involved.
